Hope Haven Welcomes a New Tutor, Whitney Hawkins!

Hope Haven is excited to introduce their newest tutor, Whitney Hawkins. Whitney comes to Hope Haven with over 12 years of extensive experience working with student’s of varying exceptionalities within Special Education for Pre-K through 8th Grade. This vast experience includes, but is not limited to, direct teaching in Mild-Moderate/Mod-Severe self-contained classrooms, CSS, EBD, VI, DHH, Support Facilitation, and varying disabilities within a resource setting including Direct Reading Intervention and Instruction.

Before joining Hope Haven’s team of tutors, Whitney worked at Florida’s School for the Deaf and the Blind located in St. Augustine, Florida. She has also worked for the Center of Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), as a Behavioral Health Specialist at the Regional Center of California, and has worked as an ABA Therapist and a Developmental Specialist with Easter Seals. Whitney even has formal experiential professional training from the UC Davis Mind Institute and Fresno Diagnostic Center, and has specialized in the implementation of Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), Visual Schedules & Cues, PECS, Social Narratives, and Augmentative & Alternative Communication (ACC).

Whitney holds a Bachelors in Education and Family Studies/Child Development from Arizona State and is a soon to be a graduate of the University of North Florida summa cum laude with an M.ED in Exceptional Student Education as an elected member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

Whitney holds the following current licenses and certifications:

  • Florida DCFS Early Childhood Director License
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
  • Mental Health First Aid (Youth)
  • Utah State University’s VIISA Visually Impaired specialist 3-5 & SKI-HI INSITE specialist certifications in Early Intervention
  • Florida Department of Education teaching licenses in PreK through 3rd grade and ESE Kindergarten through 12th grade.

As an educator, Whitney is a passionate advocate for literacy and encouraging a students’ independence and self-confidence through an inclusive community and educational experience. Hope Haven is thrilled to have such a highly qualified and outstanding individual join our tutoring team, and we cannot wait to see the positive impact she has on our students!
