"Disrupting the Norm" is not just a conference; it's a platform for bold ideas, innovative strategies, and transformative approaches to service delivery for neurodivergent individuals.

Keynote Speakers Chris and Nik Nikic will share their vision of massive change through the 1% better strategy.

Speaker Lineup:

Dr. Ami Klin will share cutting-edge technology used to support the autism diagnosis process and inform intervention strategies in children as young as 16 months of age. (1.5 CEU)

Dr. Carrie Straub will introduce groundbreaking approaches in leveraging avatar-based interactions to teach and enhance interpersonal skills among neurodivergent persons. (1.5 CEU)

Luisa Reis and Melanie Hammer are looking forward to engaging participants in a hands-on arts integration approach to enhance service delivery. (1.5 CEU)

Rachel Ludwig and Kyle Baltuch will explore the current challenges neurodivergent students face in transitioning to employment and strategies to empower them for successful careers. (1.0 CEU)

Al Emerick and Jason Eichenholz are bringing the open-source concepts of software design to social enterprise and a new model of self-sustaining communities for persons with autism. (1.5 CEU)

Dr. Eric Tridas will do a deep dive into the assessment process of children with reading problems, and the subsequent interventions to address these challenges. (3.0 CEU)

Stella Johnson will host a thought leadership discussion to explore the idea that nonprofits could do more by doing less and getting out of the business of service delivery altogether. (1.5 CEU)

Dr. Varun Choudhary will share how virtual reality and digital therapeutics are promoting skill acquisition in persons with autism, and how these tools can be incorporated in practices that require third-party reimbursement. (1.0 CEU)

Tim Armstrong and Courtney Ledwick will help participants learn how to incorporate horticulture therapy and build a more inclusive environment for neurodivergent individuals. (1.0 CEU)

Winter Career Camp

Session A – Dec. 19-23, 2022, 8 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Session B – Jan. 2-3, 2023, 8 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Our career camps focus on a variety of job exploration, work readiness, and self-advocacy skills. We discuss multiple topics which include finding job postings, completing an application, interviewing, on the job etiquette, and communicating with others in the workplace.

These camps are free to participants, but they do require a referral from your VR counselor.

For ages 3–22, with physical and/or developmental disabilities.

Campers enrolled in Winter Days of Hope benefit from activities including:

  • Music therapy

  • Daily theme-based art projects, outdoor play, and more!

Our specialized approach focuses on a student’s abilities, not their diagnoses. We support social and emotional well-being and growth, and provide a structured environment where kids thrive! Siblings are welcome to sign up, too. Campers are grouped by age, maturity and need.

Camp Hope maintains a 1:5 teacher/student ratio. All program costs are included in a daily fee of $90 and no registration fees apply. Call for financial assistance information: 904.346.5100.

Week 4: July 5 – July 8 Week 8: August 1 – August 5

Campers enrolled in Camp Hope benefit from activities including:

  • Individual development plans: Each camper has an individual plan to track their progress and growth.

  • Music therapy

  • Campers may elect to work with applied behavior analysis (ABA), speech, occupational therapy (OT), and physical therapy (PT) therapists through our on-campus partnership with Great Strides.

  • Daily theme-based art projects, outdoor play, and more!

Our specialized approach focuses on a student’s abilities, not their diagnoses. We support social and emotional well-being and growth, and provide a structured environment where kids thrive! Siblings are welcome to sign up, too. Campers are grouped by age, maturity and need.

Camp Hope maintains a 1:5 teacher/student ratio and is under the supervision of a master's-level manager. All program costs are included in a weekly fee of $450 and no registration fees apply. Financial assistance may be available.

Open House

Join us at our Open House, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 4:30-6:30 p.m. during School Choice Week!

Tour our Discovery School (for children 3-8) or our Hope Academy (for teens and young adults) to see if Hope Haven is right for your family. Meet our staff, ask questions and enjoy refreshments. No RVSP needed. Children welcome, but not required.

Project SEARCH Begins

This business-led collaboration helps young adults with special needs develop job search skills through internships where they learn to gain and maintain employment.

  • Primary goal is paid employment

  • Potential participants must complete a written application and interview

  • Financial assistance may be available from the McKay Scholarship Program, Gardiner Scholarship, Vocational Rehab funding, or other sources

This is a full-time program, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. weekdays and aligns with the Duval County Public School calendar.
